John 14.2 cont.

2 In My Father’s house there are many rooms, if there are not, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.

Hopefully one of the joys of going on holiday is to discover the kind of accommodation that has been prepared for us. Those who are in the business of providing hospitality normally make every effort to prepare the accommodation for their quests.

It is in their interests for paying guests to feel very comfortable and happy with the accommodation. Complaints are very unwelcome as they can adversely affect future business.

Jesus told His disciples that He was leaving to go and prepare a place for them.

The preparation was to be done through His dying on the cross in our place.

The cost of our Heavenly and eternal accommodation was and always will be beyond our means to pay. Only Jesus could pay that price through His selfless death on the cross, paying the price of our sin.

In paying that price by His eternal sacrifice, He prepared the way and the place for our eternal home.

His being raised from the dead was also part of that preparation; for as Christ Jesus was raised from the dead, He is the first fruit of all who believe in Him and are to be raised to our eternal home.

Paul wrote:

Christ has been raised from the dead. He has become the first of a great harvest of those who will be raised to life again – 1 Corinthians 15.20 (NLT).

Are we sure of our eternal home? Are we confident that we shall take up residence in the home, the place that Jesus has prepared for us?

The disciples could be sure only if they did what Jesus commanded them to do. His command was that they must believe in God, and they must believe in Him.

The same is true for us. Our confidence in being welcomed into the home that Jesus has prepared for us can only be built upon our having faith in God and in our Lord Jesus.
