Matthew 1.22-23

22 Now all this took place to fulfil what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet.

23 See a virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is: ‘God with us’.

Every prophetic word spoken must have its fulfilment. God has told us that everything that He has said, or promised will happen. We read this in:

Isaiah. 55:11:

It is the same with My word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

God promised through Amos the following:

Indeed, the Sovereign LORD never does anything until He reveals His plans to His servants the prophets – Amos 3.7 (NLT).

Many times in the Old Testament, throughout the centuries, God revealed His plan for the coming of Jesus, our Saviour and Lord.

It is said that there are 353 prophecies in the Old Testament that Jesus has fulfilled.

The angel brings reassurance to Joseph that what is happening to both Mary and himself is part of God’s eternal purposes and it is time for him to change track and come in line with God.

Our Father God has a plan for each one of us; it is a plan that He established before the creation of the world; it is a plan that we should be adopted as His sons and to be holy and blameless:

  1. Even as He chose us in Him before the creation of the world for us to be holy and blameless before His face, in love
  1. deciding beforehand for us to be adopted as sons for Himself, through Jesus Christ, according to the kindly intent of His will – Ephesians 1.4-5.

What was happening to Joseph and Mary was not an afterthought, nor was it a mistake. It was exactly as the Lord God Almighty had determined from before the creation of all things.

As we face some of the unusual situations that the Lord Jesus leads us into we may have doubts and questions, we may be at a loss as to know what the right thing is to do. In this we can be sure that the Lord Jesus will bring to us His reassurance that what He lays before us is in accordance with His purposes.
