Matthew 1.2-5
2 Abraham was the father of Isaac and Isaac was the father of Jacob, Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers.
3 Judas was the father of Perez (Phares) and Zara their mother being Thamar, Phares was the father of Hezrom, and Hezrom was the father of Ram (Aram),
4 Ram (Aram) was the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab was the father of Nashon, and Nashon was the father of Salmon.
5 Salmon was the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, and Boaz was the father of Obed whose mother was Ruth, and Obed was the father of Jessie.
The Genealogy that Matthew records is divided into three lots of fourteen. Over the next few days we shall learn what the meaning is of each name.
