Daily Reading: 18th October 2016

Matthew 5.25-26 cont.

25 Be quick to be favourable to your adversary while you are with him on the way (to court), lest he deliver you to the judge, and he to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.

26 In all sincerity I tell you that you will not come out of there until you pay back the last penny.

Every human being is on the way to court, and each one of us is accompanied by Jesus.

In Revelation we read about standing before the judgement seat of God:

12 And I saw the dead, both the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, which is the book of life, and the dead were judged according to their deeds, which had been written in the books.

13 And the sea gave up the dead in it, also death and Hades gave up the dead in them, and they were each judged according to what they had done.

14 And death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire; the lake of fire is the second death.

15 And if anyone’s (name) is not found having been written of the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire – Revelation 20.12-15.

Not one of us can avoid this, for God’s word tells that it is both the great and the small that will stand before the Throne.

The person who thinks he is too important to be judged will find himself stood before the judgement seat of Jesus.

If anyone thinks that they are very unimportant and that God would not even notice them, they too will be before the judgement seat of Jesus.

This is to take place after death.

Jesus tells us that we had better get things settled before we reach death and the judgement seat.

This settlement Jesus has made available for everyone. He died on the cross as the payment for our sin. The judgement on everyone of us is the judgement of death. That is what our sins deserve. Not one of us deserves to go to Heaven, because we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s high standard.

God’s word tells us:

The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord – Romans 6.23 (NLT).

Each one of us is on the way to the court room of God. The only way we can avoid His judgement is to repent of our sins and believe in Jesus as our Lord and Saviour.

We must not delay.
