John 14.6 cont.

6 Jesus said to him: “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.

Jesus said that He is the Way. In all that Jesus did He has shown us the way in which we should walk, so that we reach our destination – the Father.

The Jews understood something about the way in which they should live.

Moses had received from God the Law, which showed the people of Israel how they should live before God. He said:

[32] So Moses told the people, “You must obey all the commands of the LORD your God, following His instructions in every detail.

[33] Stay on the path that the LORD your God has commanded you to follow. Then you will live long and prosperous lives in the land you are about to enter and occupy – Deuteronomy 5.32-35 (NLT).

Isaiah prophesied:

And a great road will go through that once deserted land. It will be named the Highway of Holiness. Evil-minded people will never travel on it. It will be only for those who walk in God’s ways; fools will never walk there – Isaiah 35.8 (NLT). That great road is Jesus.

Today Rachel and I have been married for 45 years. We have always sought to live in the ways of Jesus, and by so doing all those years have been filled with the blessings of God. We have always sought the ways that keep Jesus at the centre of our relationship, and this has brought us more marital bliss than we can recount.

We can testify that to keep Jesus at the centre of marriage is the best way for husband and wife to have a good marriage. Jesus is the Way, and He shows His way to us for every step that we have to take. The Psalmist said: Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path – Psalm 119.105 (NLT).

May the following be our daily prayer:

[4] Show me the path where I should walk, O LORD; point out the right road for me to follow.

[5] Lead me by Your truth and teach me, for You are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in You – Psalm 25.4-5 (NLT).
