John 14.19-20

19 In yet a little while and the world will no longer see Me, but you see Me; because I live you also will live.

20 In that day you will know that I am in My Father and you are in Me and I am in you.

For three years the disciples had been drawn closer and closer to Jesus. No doubt they had hung on every word that He spoke; marvelled at the works of power that He performed; and wondered at His awesome and God like character.

Within an hour or so Jesus would be removed from them by force, taken to the High Priest, then on to the praetorium, where He was tried by Pilate. Finally He was nailed to the cross, and only one of them dared to attend His execution.

When Jesus was speaking to them they probably could not envisage what was about to happen, but they were about to discover a greater closeness with Jesus than they had ever had.

Jesus was telling them that through His resurrection and ascension they would live. The life that Jesus was talking about was a life that was going to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

With His Spirit within them they would live life in a much more intimate way with Jesus than they could possibly have experienced while Jesus was physically present with them.

The same is true for us today. Accepting Jesus as our Lord and Saviour brings us into a deeper depth of relationship with Him. It is a relationship that goes beyond head knowledge. It is a new dimension of life lived in the power of the Holy Spirit.

This is why we read n Acts 4.13 these words:

The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men who had had no special training – (NLT).

Knowing such intimacy with Jesus is possible for us because He died and was raised to life as the first fruits of all who die believing in Him.

Jesus went on to state that this will be the time when they would understand the Oneness of Himself with the Father, a oneness that would also include them.

The good news is that we, along with every follower of Jesus are included in the Oneness of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is a oneness of love.
